Bitmap Monogram
For the bitmap monogram, the goal was to create a system of simple, legible and interlocking abstract design. The initials of this design are āGLSā. While the āGā and āSā are both letters that take up a notable amount of space, the āLā makes design a system difficult as it is made of two simple lines that only take up the left and bottom sides of the given space. To minimize this negative space, the letters were elongated and pushed into close proximity, which helps limit awkward negative spaces. Due to the interlocking, the design acts as a complex line. The rules of the system have it so that vertical lines must be 4 pixels wide and horizontal lines must be 1 pixel wide, which elongates the letters. The aim of this project was to find a design that has an easy to understand system while creating a complex and eye-catching monogram.

GDSN223
GDSN224
While the final design for 223 relies more on abstracting the letters, the final for 224 aims more for legibility while retaining the square shape by disconnecting the letters. The redesign for 224 also makes the āLā the same height as the other letters and it is made to take up less space within the monogram.
