Reverie: The Subscription Box for D&D

For my Senior Capstone, I knew I wanted to create a product that involved my favorite hobby and that I would personally buy. The name Reverie was immediately decided on, but it took a few days of conceptualization before I landed on a Dungeons and Dragons subscription box service that delivers monthly one-shot adventures and various fun D&D products.

Aside from being a product I would personally buy, I wanted to use this project as an opportunity to show off the full range of my design skills. I worked within multiple Adobe Suite programs for the branding, packaging, advertising and deliverables, I illustrated a few elements with Procreate, practiced my prototype and model photography, and made a beginner’s attempt at UX/UI design in Figma.

Since Reverie is a subscription box service, it was important that I designed a website layout where a potential subscriber can find information on what is Reverie, what items can be expected in the box, and how they can sign up for the subscription service. The landing page and subscription page each features an advertisement of the current box of the month, The Evernight Sapphire Mystery One-Shot, and close-up photography of the items included. By designing the website, I feel I found a way to show how exactly the branding and product design would interact together.

I began my Capstone with the branding and logo design; early on, I had decided on Reverie as my brand’s name and knew that I wanted to embrace a fantastic, elegant, and more feminine aesthetic. The word is medieval in origin, which inspired me to create a wordmark for the logo based on illuminated manuscripts. This keeps the logo simple, memorable, and most importantly, allows the branding to be versatile when applied to the physical subscription box. I paired up the decorative blackletter of the logo with standard serif typefaces to keep the elegant, classic vibe, yet decided on a more vibrant, bright color palette and gradient to modernize the brand.

The biggest goal for my Capstone was to produce and put together a physical prototype of the subscription box, featuring all of the items promised within. I used outside sources for the miniatures, maps, and dice, however I fully designed the packaging, adventure module booklet, and thank you letter myself. It was amazing to see my design on the big screen when I presented, but that was nothing compared to having a tangible version of my designs right in front of me and I loved being able to photograph my model interacting with my designs.
