Johnstone Center T-Shirt

I designed this t-shirt for the Johnstone Center Residence Hall at Montana State University. To promote community involvement, each hall will hold a t-shirt design contest at the beginning of the fall semester; the voting is done through residents of the dormitory and the chosen winner will have their design printed and distrubuted as the hall’s official t-shirt for that school year. The result is a simple and whimsical design that incorporates details unique to Johnstone Hall; the unoffical mascot is a crow, and the building is structurally split into three wings. The three crows hold banners with the names of each wing, and are individualized through color. The primary colors, red, yellow, and blue, show the individual yet equally important identities of each Johnstone wing, along with the unique decor framing the names. The typeface is Arial Rounded MT and the font is Bold. This sans serif typeface was chosen for its softness round edges and balanced design that works well alongside simple art.

The illustrative element of the crow is repeated on the front pocket, as well as the school year. While only one crow is pictured now, elements from the back are continued in the sound lines coming from its open mouth; there are three lines, each one the color that represents a wing. Here, the crow represents Johnstone as an individual hall while still acknowledging the seperate sections that make up the community.
